ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate serum levels of small dense low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (sdLDL-C)in transient ischemic attacks(TIA)patients and assess their predictive values for subsequent stroke risk after TIA.Methods Clinical case-control study.Serum sdLDL-C levels were determined in 96 TIA patients who were admitted to Jinling Hospital from January 2016 to December 2016 and 44 healthy controls who had contemporaneously visited Jinling Hospital For a routine or the routine.ABCD3-I scores in TIA patients were calculated. All TIA patients were classified into three subgroups:high-risk(8≤ABCD3-I≤13,n=23), moderate-risk(4≤ABCD3-I≤7, n=36)and low-risk(0≤ABCD3-I≤3, n=37). Total cholesterol, triglyceride, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and other lipid/lipoprotein parameters in TIA patients and controls were also analyzed.Spearman correlation analyses and multivariate linear regression analyses were performed to investigate the association of serum sdLDL-C levels with ABCD3-I scores.Logistic regression analyses were performed to investigate the predictive values of serum sdLDL-C for TIA patients. Results Serum sdLDL-C levels were significantly increased in TIA patients compared with controls(t=-5.202,P<0.001).Furthermore,sdLDL-C levels in high-risk patients were significantly higher than that in moderate-risk(t=3.534, P=0.001)and low-risk(t=4.154,P<0.001)patients.Serum sdLDL-C levels were positively correlated with ABCD 3-I scores(r=0.317,P=0.002)in TIA patients. The stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that only sdLDL-C was a significant independent predictor of ABCD 3-I scores(β=0.481,P=0.032,adjusted R2=0.189), after adjusting for age, gender, blood pressure and other lipid/lipoprotein parameters.Binary Logistic analyses indicated that serum sdLDL-C levels were closely associated with TIA presence(OR=2.84,95%CI =1.42 -5.70, P=0.003), after adjustment with age, gender, blood pressure and other lipid/lipoprotein parameters. Conclusions Serum sdLDL-C levels were increased in TIA patients. The significantly independent associations of sdLDL-C levels with ABCD3-I scores were observed.Serum sdLDL-C levels may contribute to assessing subsequent stroke risk after TIA.(Chin J Lab Med,2018,41:316-320)

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the related factors of anemia during pregnancy and provide scientific evidence for the primary prevention of anemia during pregnancy. Methods The pregnant women (≤ 12 pregnant weeks) who received the first pregnancy care in a local medical institution in Hunan province from June 2013 to November 2014 were included in this cohort study, and for them anemia had been excluded by physical examination.Baseline survey and follow up till childbirth were conducted for them.A queue-based nested case-control study (1 ∶ 2) was conducted (380 pregnant women with anemia detected in this study as case group,760 pregnant women without anemia randomly selected and matched by age, habitual residence during pregnancy as control group. And t test,x2 test and logistic regression analysis were conducted to identify related factors of anemia during pregnancy. Results Multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that low family annual income level (net income) (OR=2.08,95%CI:1.22-3.59),low educational level (OR=2.09,95%CI:1.22-3.59),pre-pregnancy perm/hair dye (OR=2.23,95% CI:1.63-3.05),early pregnancy vomiting (OR=2.51,95% CI:1.56-4.03) were the risk factors for anemia during pregnancy.Intake of vitamin and trace element supplements (OR=0.69,95% CI:0.50-0.94),frequent meat, fish, shrimp, egg intakes (OR=0.68,95%CI:0.49-0.92),frequent soy milk, milk intakes (OR=0.51,95%CI:0.27-0.95) were the protective factors for anemia during pregnancy. Conclusion A number of factors, such as family annual income level, education level, poisonous and harmful material contact, pregnancy reaction, nutrition, are related to the incidence of anemia during pregnancy,it is necessary to take preventive measures to reduce the incidence of anemia during pregnancy.

ABSTRACT

Objective To analyze the changes of serum levels ofαII-spectrin breakdown products (SBDPs)in traumatic brain inj ury (TBI)patients, and further to investigate the clinical diagnosis value of SBDPs for patients with TBI,especially with mTBI.Methods The serum levels of SBDPs were examined in 43 severe TBI (sTBI)patients,43 mild TBI (mTBI)patients and 43 healthy controls using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).The diagnostic usefulness of SBDPs for TBI patients were assessed by Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC)curves analysis. Results There was no significant difference of SBDP145 among the three groups (F=1.340,P>0.05).Serum levels of SBDP120 in controls,mTBI and con-trols were 7.06±2.23,11.67±9.14 and 12.64±11.44 ng/ml,respectively.Compared with controls, serum levels of SB-DP120 were significantly higher in patients with sTBI (F=9.873,P=0.001)and mTBI (F=9.873,P=0.008),while there was no significant difference of SBDP120 between sTBI patients and mTBI patients (F=9.873,P=0.515>0.05). The area under ROC curve (AUC)of SBDP120 for TBI patients was 0.781 (95% CI:0.690~0.872,P<0.001).For mTBI patients, the area under ROC curve was 0.736 (95% CI:0.624~0.848,P<0.001).And for discriminating TBI patients with CT negative or positive, the area under ROC curve was 0.709 (95% CI:0.582~0.837,P=0.007<0.01).Conclusion The serum levels of SBDP120 were significantly increased in TBI patients, especially mTBI patients. And the serum levels of SBDP120 can be used as potential non-invasive biomarker for mTBI patients.
